"One True Thing" was created by the "subtractive" method. Although one of the simplest methods, I find it challenging The plate is rolled with ink and the color is removed with any kind of tool, even cotton swabs then printed on the press.. It can also become a strong, but simple statement.
Morning Encounters is a layered or stacked monotype. This is a montype using the transparent layering technique. Three or more inks are made transparent, Printing is done as each color is applied to the entire plate and wiped off by the artist. The final result is achieved by stacking or layering transparent inks as the plate passes through the press each time
Summer of 2005 I worked with Pat Pfeffer at 4 Park Press, Carlsbad, CA. Throughout the summer I created a series of flower layered prints I called "Morning Encounters" The inspiration for this series was the walk I take every day with Jackson, our beloved Shepard mix dog. We enjoyed the beautiful gardens we passed on our morning journey.
The method for this monotype was also created at 4 Park Press. We were experimenting with a layered type techniqur.I was quite pleased with the outcome and did many such prints since.
This monoprint is one piece that was influenced by my frequent trips to Australia. One of our sons lives in Sydney. I have had the opportunity to browse the many galleries in Paddington and Manley plus the museums. I have been fascinated with the aboriginal work. I even was fortunate enough to speak with a curator at their National Gallery in Canberra.
This piece was also influenced by my "Australia Connection" The circular design loosely resembles one from an Aboriginal painting. It translated quite differently into the stencil that I cut to do this print. The "dots" of course need no explanation.
"Ringer"is another print created at 4 Park Press . It was the result of "just trying things".
"Aussie Hello" This monotype was inspired by the Sydney Harbor . I hoped to capture it's freshness, color, and magnificence with the friendliness of their people.
"Warming Trend" This is another monotype created using small stencils with the painterly aspect of monotypes.
